Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. Why was the ARINC Industry Activities Division divested?
Q2. Who has acquired the ARINC Industry Activities Division?
During the Rockwell-Collins (RCI) acquisition of ARINC, a potential for conflict of interest was identified with RCI owning the industry standardization activities that ARINC has held since the late 1940s. RCI decided that divestiture would avoid the potential conflict and preserve the industry standards functions.
Q3. What was included in the purchase?
SAE International’s Industry Technologies Consortia (SAE ITC). SAE ITC is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit organization that provides a unique framework to support the needs of industry and to enable resolution of industry issues and the development and publication of standards and best practices
Q4. Has the AEEC, AMC, and FSEMC governance changed?
Industry Activities Division of ARINC. This includes the Industry Activities intellectual property, aviation standards development organization, as well as the Secretariat for the AEEC, AMC, and FSEMC and all associated subcommittees, working groups, and user forums.
Q5. Have the AEEC, AMC, and FSEMC procedures changed?
No. It is the intention of SAE ITC to keep the current governance, as defined in the combined AEEC, AMC, and FSEMC Terms of Reference (published February 2010). The activity leadership committees—i.e., AEEC Executive Committee, AMC Steering Group, and FSEMC Steering Committee—include representatives of more than 40 airlines and aviation organizations.
Q6. How should I access the IA web site, including Subcommittee pages and the ARINC Standards Store?
No. It is the intention of SAE ITC to keep the current procedures in place.
Q7. Will the designation for ARINC standards change with the IA ownership change?
The ARINC Industry Activities web site remains the same (http://www.aviation-ia.com). This will remain intact. The ARINC Store is now the ARINC Standards Store. It has moved from the previous address to be accessible from the ARINC Industry Activities web site. All Industry Activities participants will be notified if any changes are required.
Q8. Where will I find my favorite IA employee?
No. SAE ITC has obtained a license to use the ARINC name for standards. There are no plans to change from the ARINC designation. SAE ITC also has license to use the AEEC, AMC, FSEMC, Plane Talk, Sim Notes, and AeroLine names.

Q9. What will the effect be on the Subcommittees, Working Groups, and User Forums?
The change in IA ownership should be transparent to all participants. It is the intention of SAE ITC to keep the current procedures in place. The Subcommittee/Working Group and User Forum projects currently approved by the leadership groups will continue as planned. Industry Activities will support the currently planned meetings and will continue to schedule meetings as required.
